Day 90 (7/19) - An Empire State of Mind

Day 90 - 17.1 mi/1365.7 mi tot
NJ 94 to Wildcat Shelter

Got a great hitch this morning coming out of the church hostel and Miles, Ugly Tuna and I were all able to get in the car and get driven from Vernon out to the trailhead. The three of us made it up the hill and almost to the first shelter when the rain started. It got really dark right before that and it looked like we were in for a huge storm but it only lasted for a little while and wasn't too intense. Shortly after leaving there we caught up with Master Chief and got over the NJ/NY border to enter the great Empire State.

Some good climbs and views along the way and the trail was not an easy stretch. We made very slow miles today but got to NY 17A and the Bellvale Creamery for some nice afternoon ice cream on a very hot day. While we were there we got interviewed for the local Warwick, NY (?) newspaper so be on the lookout for that coming soon to a newstand near you. we spent a while there to avoid some of the heat before going the last 2 miles to the shelter. We would have liked to go farther but water availability and campsite availability limited us to this relatively short day.

To introduce this group I am hiking with:
- Ugly Tuna from Minneapolis, MN
- Miles from Atlanta, GA
- Master Chief, a retired Navy (you guessed it) Master Chief from South Carolina

I am the youngest in the group by close to 20 years but we get along well and have similar hiking targets.

Moving on tomorrow and unsure of the final destination.

Catch me in the kitchen like Simmons whipping pastry.

- Snowfox

Sent on the go from my Peek
