Day 92 (7/21) - Down in a Hole

Day 92 - 8.9 mi/1394.2 mi tot
William Brien Memorial Shelter to Bear Mtn Bridge

A short day today with a few steep climbs to get over Bear Mountain and down to the Hudson River. Bear Mtn was pretty neat with a zoo and a bunch of displays at the bottom.. On the way down we walked on aseveral miles of trail that were relatively new and very nicely developed. Nice work by the local volunteers but some other areas of the trail could use some more day to day maintenance, mainly removing and managing blowdowns across the trail. There were more along this section of the trail than most other sections of the trail anywhere else.

At the zoo we went through the lowest elevation on the trail at 124 feet above sea level. Appropriately enough, this point is directly in front of black bear exhibit at the zoo. So unfortunately it is all uphill from here (just another bad joke, sorry).

Ater that we took a cab into Highland Falls NY and got to the Econolodge and then went into town for a good mexican lunch and some resupply at a grocery store across the street from West Point. Back to the motel for pizza and beer dinner and some good quality lying down to get relaxed for tomorrow.

2 days to Pawling then onto the train to NYC for a good rest of Saturday.

Down in a hole and they've put all the stones in their place.
